Re: Idiot's Guide to Beading |
Hi - I hope it is okay to post this response - I have made two Bead Merchant kits and found the instructions very clear and easy to follow. But if you really want photos then I think the best ones for my money are in books written by Stephanie Burnham - Start Beading has the best pics and 100 Beaded Jewellery designs the best projects with slightly smaller pics but still excellent - all of course in my personal opinion! Happy Beading :0) Lemony |

Re: Idiot's Guide to Beading |
| Hi Lemony, I'd agree totally with the '100 Beaded Jewellery Designs" book; the projects are gorgeous and there is something for everyone at all levels. Also, I like the way each completed item is shown as a full diagram of how it is supposed to look - really helpful. |

Re: Idiot's Guide to Beading |
| there is another really good book with pics that i think is very useful: the encyclopedia of beading techniques by sara withers and stephanie burnham - published by search press. lots of photos on beadwork, including knotting, wirework, knitting and crochet. in fact, i think we will put it on our book list! |

Re: Idiot's Guide to Beading |
| Why not try the books by the Beadworkers Guild. I have three of them and find them really good when you first get started, and I still use them when I need to look stitches up when it has been some time in between projects.Good value for money and easy instructions. |

Re: Idiot's Guide to Beading |
I only learnt to make bead jewellery on a cruise in March/April 2008 and have since bought The Beadworkers Guild books 'Introduction to Beadwork: Bracelets and the other one 'Earrings'. The illustrations are excellent and so are the ones in 'Creative Bead Jewelry' by Carol Taylor and 'Encyclopedia of Beading Techniques' by Sara Withers & Stephanie Burnham (already been mentioned).
I good idea I learnt on the cruise is to use a piece of broken balloon to help friction on the needle when going through beads over and over again - it certainly helps. A made a 'Zulu' stitch bracelet and had to go through some beads 9 times!
I would love to know if there are others in the Rayleigh/Southend/Billericay area who would like to get together sometime?? Regards, Owly Wendy |
